SAMUEL BLACK - PETITION FOR NATURALIZATION - JANUARY 9, 1922
DOCUMENT:
black-samuel-naturalization-petition-1922-01-09.pdf
NOTES:
- Received by mail from the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Genealogy Program, April 2016, along with Samuel's 1920 declaration of intention.
- These two documents gave us the new information that Samuel arrived in the U.S. on May 23, 1905, sailing to Philadelphia from Liverpool, on the Westernland -- information which made it possible to find the passenger manifests for Samuel, his mother, and his siblings.
- It's hard to read the writing on the petition for naturalization. But it appears to say that Samuel's wife Anna's date of birth (in Romania) was September 17, 1894.
- The white rectangles covering the date of birth of Lillian (Samuel's sister) and the addresses of the witnesses were placed there by the USCIS when photocopying the requested document, for privacy reasons. (But anyway we already know that Lillian's date of birth was April 28, 1920, which we learned from her 1923 death certificate.)
