NOTES:

• These documents from the Hebrew Orphan Asylum of New York show that Edward Weiss (the younger half-brother of Julia Weiss), who had entered the orphanage in 1906, left the orphanage in 1909.
• The first document is a ledger recording discharges from the orphanage, and the second is a declaration by Edward's older brother William, withdrawing Edward from the orphanage because he (William) is now "able to maintain him."

  • Committed by: [? hard to read -- perhaps an abbreviation? The same word appears next to many names]

  • Date of Birth: 10/23/96
  • Date of Admission: 11/30/06
  • Age When Com'ted: 10
  • Date of Expiration: 10/22/12
  • Date of Discharge: 7/11/09
  • The declaration has the same date as the ledger and says:

    I hereby withdraw my
         brother Edward Weiss
    from the care and protection of your Institution, for the following reason
         able to maintain him"

  • The signature says "William Weiss" and the address is 470 E. 10 St. See this address today in Google Maps. This is only a one-minute walk 456 E. 10th St., which was address of David Weiss and family from at least 1900 until at least 1907.
